"GOKUL GRAM" as visualized by Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat means....

  • A village well-equipped with minimum basic amenities.
  • A village having proper sanitation and congenial environment.
  • A village surrounded by beautiful, natural environment.
  • A realization of people’s dreams.
 

BACKGROUND:

  • Many villages without basic minimum facilities even after 50 years of Independence.
  • Gokul Gram Yojana launched in the year 1995-96 to provide basic infrastructure, beautiful surroundings and a environment to all the villages within 5 years. (1995-2000).
  • Subsequently, the scheme was dropped.

PREAMBLE:

The present State Govt. is keen to implement the Gokul Gram Yojana with a renewed vigour and enthusiasm. Accordingly, Gokul Gram Yojana reintroduced with effect from the current financial year.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Development of villages in accordance with the wishes of the people.
  • Planning implementation, monitoring and maintenance of works by the people.
  • "Gram Mitra" – a link between the programmes and the people.
  • A unique scheme for rural reconstruction.

SCOPE:

  • All the villages to be covered under the scheme by 2003 A.D. and make them "Gokul Grams".
  • 7277 villages already covered under the Yojana during 1995-96 and 1996-97 likely to be completed by 31-3-99.
  • 1/3 of the remaining villages to be covered in a phased manner as shown below:

WORKS TO BE TAKEN UP TO PROVIDE CERTAIN BASIC AMENITIES:

  • Works to be undertaken under the scheme should be such that one gets an impression that the village is an ideal one.
  • For this, arrangement already made to get the following works executed through the Programme Implementation Committees in each village.

  • Tree plantation along the main road of the village starting from the village entrance to the Panchayat Ghar.
  • Afforestation in Gauchar/Wasteland

OTHER WORKS:

  • Programme Implementation Committee can then implement these works with the approval of D.R.D.A.
  • Non-availability of basic minimum amenities-the sole criteria for selection of village under the scheme.

Selection of villages to be finalized by the Governing Body of the respective D.R.D.A.
